Jimmy Valentine is intelligent, young and handsome. He’s not a “bad fellow at heart” and has compassion for those in need. An infamous safecracker at the beginning, he establishes himself as an honest lover and a successful businessman after falling in love. At Elmore, he assumes the name Ralph D. Spencer and opens a shoe-store. His learning the art of shoe-making in prison helps him to establish himself as an honest businessman. At the bank, when a little girl gets locked inside the vault he rescues her at the risk of revelation of his past identity. He uses the burglar’s tools to save the girl. He proves himself honest to his new identity. His reformation from a burglar to an honest man with a humane approach makes Ben Price so sympathetic that he does not arrest him. Jimmy Valentine is really a very interesting character.
