Viola told Olivia that she was born to a higher status than the one she was in. But still she
belonged to a fairly high rank. She also said that she was a gentleman.
Viola’s way of talking, her appearance, her manners, and her sensitive soul- all proved her to
be a gentleman to Olivia.
After Cesario’s departure, Olivia sent a servant after him with a diamond ring under the pretence that he had left it with her as a present from Orsino. Olivia wanted to give Cesario a token of her love. She hoped that by presenting a ring to Cesario, she would be able to give ome hint about her feelings.
